The
letter for today is: B, where I feature benign
and banana.
Memory
takes a person back to the strangest times.
Peeling a banana on a tropical beach, with waves crashing on the shore as the only sound, brings back the experience of a single human surrounded by, and part of, benign nature.
Peeling a banana on a tropical beach, with waves crashing on the shore as the only sound, brings back the experience of a single human surrounded by, and part of, benign nature.
One
of the things I learned to do after I took my first steps was to capture the
rapt attention of my parents. I would climb onto a chair and ask, "Ta I
dump?" This pinnacle of anticipation for my jump roused the feeling of the
appreciation and acceptance of my benign
family. They expressed their love through shining eyes and soft, accepting
smiles.
That
same benign feeling comes to me
during, and after, meditation. In this world full of inequality, heartache and
instability, what else could surpass such complete fulfillment? My place in the
whole of creation equals that of a banana.
Under the skin, we have a purpose.
Love your words!
ReplyDeleteGreat words. I was at the beach yesterday and it was so relaxing. I could have used the banana. Lol
ReplyDeleteYou have a very interesting way of looking at things.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the A to Z challenge!!
ReplyDeleteChrissy
Benign banana, that's fun to say. Try it Gus, benign banana, benign banana..."
ReplyDelete:l "benign banana" :)
How nice to think of oneself as a banana:-)
ReplyDelete"Under, the skin, we have a purpose." I love it!
ReplyDeleteSo right when you peal off our skin what's inside.....
ReplyDeleteloved this!
And a great job with B. I haven't figured out my B yet, maybe this afternoon. I like your writing Francene. It's really a sweet post.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful imagery, especially as I am on Orkney at this moment and it is sleeting outside!. THanks for visiting my blog too. Enjoy the Challenge.
ReplyDeleteEbby
I'm glad you didn't malign the banana. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you tied it all together with the last sentence. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Good luck with the challenge.
ReplyDeleteLove it, Francene! Indeed, "benign" is the perfect way to describe the feeling after meditation.
ReplyDeleteI love the last line of this. Like a banana that's a little bruised and scary looking, I'm really just mushy on the inside:)
ReplyDeleteFrancene! Now here's one unexpected benefit of the A to Z Challenge already. I didn't know you had a blog, but now I know I will keep in touch.*
ReplyDeleteAnyway, more to the point, great post ... and that banana is so perfect that it makes me hungry :-)
*Hope you remember me from authonomy, otherwise this comment is going to seem pretty strange ...
Wow! This is really awesome. So glad i found your blog!
ReplyDeleteI love your line, "Under the skin, we have a purpose." Fantastic!

Inspirational - thanks :0)
ReplyDeleteLove your metaphor. I think you're right. We all have a purpose, though we might not see it just yet, if ever.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteLove your blog..very interesting post today..thanks for dropping by at My Dark Cove Pantry for a visit
I love your B challenge, Francene, and I know so well that benign feeling when emerging from meditation. May we all peel off our skins of defense and accept the soft and vulnerable flesh of our souls. Namaste.
ReplyDeleteA very fascinating way of putting your message across. Will never look at a banana the same way again :-)
ReplyDeleteThis could be "B" for "balance" as you balance your adult awareness with loving memories of childhood. I've always liked the image of "peeling the onion" to get at the truth that underlies the story, but your image of the banana still 'peels' but with no sting!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you've been pairing the words, but also the imagery behind them.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a banana equaling the whole of creation. Nice. Certainly, there is something 'a'peeling' in that metaphor.
ReplyDeletewow I so love this post, Francene! Under the skin we have a purpose.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant line and very true!
Enjoyed your 'B' post. Bananas are one of my favorite fruits. I like how you entwined it into your memories. ☺
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love it!!! I wish I had such awesome words!
ReplyDeleteThis post is just wonderful.
